In Chapter 9 Molbert discusses her trip to Reserve 1202, an area with almost 25 acres of untouched and perfect rainforest located in Brazil. This land is surrounded by scrublands. The organization called Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project. ( BDFFP) is protecting other areas such as Reserve 1202. They work on preventing people from cutting down trees. This can be shown when ranchers began to chip down trees for land and the scientist explains the dangers of cutting down these trees. They want to prevent deforestation. Not only have they been able to do that but also increase biodiversity on the reserves. that is a great outcome because islands tend to be “ less diverse than the continents they once were part of (Page 180).” (C)This is definitely true. Growing up in the Dominican Republic you don’t see a lot of diversity in animals, trees, plants and agricultural. In fact, on my trip with Global Glimpse, I learned that they transport the seeds from other countries and grow them in the Dominican Republic. There is little to no at land plant resources but a lot of lands to grow things on. In fact, during my trip, I grew cucumbers from Pakistan. One of the hardest jobs I’ve ever done. This connects to the theme of earth needing management of resources. When we trade and grow the world is interconnected and balanced to benefit all areas in need of resources.
